The UK Bank Switch Guide: £1450+ in Free Cash (March 2026)

Posted on March 27, 2026April 1, 2026

Bank switching is the original free cash hack. You already know this if you have been around the block a few times, but every year there are new people discovering it for the first time. So here is the updated guide.

The premise is simple: banks offer cash to lure you away from your current account. You switch, you get paid. Rinse and repeat with a burner account if you are clever about it.

Current Offers (March 2026)

There is currently over £1,450 in switch bonuses available if you work through them all. Here are the headline deals:

The big hitters:

  • Barclays Current Account: £200 (ends 28 May 2026)
  • Barclays Premier Account: £400 (ends 30 April 2026)
  • Co-operative Bank: £100 to switch + £75 to stay
  • First Direct: £175 + £45 more
  • Lloyds: £200 for Club Lloyds, £500 for Premier
  • NatWest: £150 (£250 for Premier)
  • Santander: £200 + £20 extra

No-switch sign-up offers:

  • Revolut: £20 for signing up and spending £1
  • Zopa: £10 for opening an account
  • Monzo: £10-50 depending on account type

How Bank Switching Works

If you have never done it before, the process is straightforward:

  1. Open a second current account with your main bank (must be part of CASS service)
  2. Set up direct debits on this account (you can use multiple cheap direct debits)
  3. Apply for a new account at another bank and initiate the switch
  4. The Current Account Switch Service handles everything automatically
  5. Receive your bonus within weeks

The key rule: do not switch your main account. Open a secondary one specifically for the switching game.

Best Practices

Use your own direct debits where possible. PayPal, eBay, Moneybox, your credit card payments. Keep everything in your name to avoid any issues.

Some people cycle through all the offers in a month. Others take their time and do one every few months. Either approach works. The money is there for the taking if you are consistent.

Is It Worth It?

Yes, if you have the time to set up secondary accounts and can meet the deposit requirements. The £200 from Barclays alone is worth an hour of your time. Stack a few together and you are looking at real money.

Just remember: these offers change. Banks pull them without warning. When you see a good one, act fast.
